After his divorce, he had gone through a couple of stupid, sex-based relationships and a lot of booze before finally seeking some counseling and returning to church on a more regular basis. Through his friendships at church and his return to a life of prayer and meditation, he had conquered a lot of the loneliness and pain brought on by the divorce, and the counseling had helped him to delve into some root issues which were still causing some problems. And he had been doing pretty good, or so he thought, and even his counselor had put his stamp of approval on this new relationship. But here it was, developing into the same old same old.
