On his way there he passed Joshua's room. He peeked inside long enough to

see the infant snort, kick his feet, and roll over to one side, where he remained

asleep. He paused for a moment, and began to think of the times when he and

Mary . . . NO! He wouldn't do this to himself. He closed the door quietly and went

to the bathroom.

Brushing his teeth, he noticed his eyes were beet red, and that there were

dark circles under them. The strain of the last few days was beginning to show on

him. Although he was only twenty-seven, his hair was thinning slightly and a few

gray hairs had begun to show. Still, he told himself, his body was in pretty decent

shape. Even with his hectic schedule, he managed to keep himself fit by jogging

three times a week and playing racquetball on Saturday mornings with Joe Findlay,

a dentist who was one of the deacons at the church.
