Just as he rode away, though, the rain began to get heavier, and it started coming down so hard that it began to sting my arms and the back of my neck. I felt something bounce off the top of my head, then looked at my bike and saw little white balls bouncing off the seat and the frame. It was hailing! I began to push my bike faster, but the flat front tire was causing it to drag along in the dirt, which was fast becoming mud, and in my weakened, famished state my energy was quickly depleting. Soon I saw the red house, though, and the sight of it gave me renewed vigor, but the harder I pushed, the harder the hail fell and the bigger the pieces started to become. It began to really sting, and I noticed little trickles of blood running off my hands where sharp pieces of hail had made tiny cuts.
