Most people would even give a little tip each week, except for a couple of cheap old farts like Mr. Bradley, who owned the Mobil station, the hardware store, AND was vice-president of the Doughty Falls Savings and Loan Association. Timmy said you could always tell the ones who had money because they were the most tight-fisted ones. Last Christmas, Timmy said, Mr. Bradley had smiled and given him a fifty-cent McDonald's gift certificate and acted like Timmy was supposed to bow down and worship him or something. Timmy said he had to go all the way to Wells Beach to use the thing because there was no McDonald's in Doughty Falls, and even then he had to pay seventeen cents more to cover the cost of his Big Mac. Of course there were a few nice customers, too, like Miss Crane, the librarian, who gave Timmy a crisp new ten dollar bill for Christmas AND for his birthday, and always gave him a little tip each week besides.
