pieces of furniture he had salvaged out of his recently failed marriage, and closed his eyes.
"Well, cross that one off the list," he thought, then got up suddenly,
feeling an intense desire to water his plants. Life is weird," he thought,
picking a couple of dead leaves off the ivy that hung from the ceiling near the
kitchen. "I can't figure it out," he muttered aloud, realizing that's the one
thing in lifehe could count on--that it was entirely unpredictable.
